I recently attended a meeting of the NTCA-The Rural Broadband Association where several awards were given to small rural communications providers who had developed “smart communities”.   West Texas Rural Telephone Cooperative and its subsidiary, WT Services have already developed a broadband network that supports our “smart communities” and we are a “gem” in rural Texas.

WT Services has overbuilt the city of Hereford with fiber.   If a customer needs a GigE of bandwidth, we can deliver.   In Friona and Bovina, we have taken fiber-to-the-node.  Currently, this allows us to offer broadband internet in speeds up to 20 Mbps, with upgrades planned for the future.   We are also taking fiber deeper into our network allowing us to offer greater bandwidth to the businesses and residences of our rural service area in Deaf Smith, Parmer, and portions of Castro, Bailey and Oldham counties.

Across the nation, businesses and residences of many urban areas that are served by large commercial communications providers can’t get basic DSL (digital subscriber line service).    In contrast, WT Services has taken fiber to hospitals, city and county government locations, banks, schools, local businesses as well as residences.   This has created a “smart community” where our broadband network supports economic development and commerce, distance education options, access to distant health care professionals and diagnostics, and local banks and other businesses are connected to the home office and other locations.

Enclosed is a copy of a recent newsletter which contains specific quotes from members of our community about the benefits of our broadband network.   I am unabashedly bragging about our broadband network and as a result, our “smart community”.   Our communities enjoy broadband internet in speeds much greater than what is available to many of our urban counterparts.   We want to continue our efforts to create economic benefits through broadband, cable TV and reliable voice communications services.  As such, we invite you to meet with me and our team to discuss our capabilities and the services you need now and in the future.
